Electric Rates

Rates almost 30% below the national residential average

We're modernizing the way we serve our customers, while keeping rates almost 30% below the national residential average.

Rate Projections

We’re taking proactive steps to keep the price our customers pay for electricity as economical as possible. New technologies and infrastructure investments, which cost less than other options to produce and move low-cost energy, will help to keep our prices affordable. Our conservation programs can help customers use energy wisely and save even more.

While we’ve selected low-cost options to meet customer needs, they still come with a price. We anticipate that all customers averaged together will see a bill increase of less than 2% a year from 2018 through 2027. The increases will vary by state, year, and size.

Rate Reviews

As our company continues to be diligent in managing expenses and selecting low-cost options to meet customer needs, the cost of providing service can become more than we’re able to recover through existing rates. When this happens, we request a state’s regulatory commission to first review the costs we incur to provide our customers with energy and related services and then determine how much our customers should pay for those services through base rates. We requested to review rates in Minnesota in 2016, North Dakota in 2017, and South Dakota in 2018.

Rate Comparisons

We work to ensure the energy we provide remains a value to our customers and our rates remain among the lowest in the region and in the nation.
